Angelic Breathiness
In professional nomenclature, "Light Chest".
Your voice is light and free, and it easily revs up to higher speeds, allowing you to sing high notes without a problem.
However, when it comes to producing a full sound, you may sometimes struggle. This is because your vocal cords do not adduct as effectively in the chest register as they could to achieve a full sound and give you adequate control in the lower range and in the connection between registers.
What I would recommend to you is to work on vocal cord adduction in the lower area of your voice, so that you gain support and confidence there, and then gradually bring this new quality upwards, to where you feel comfortable.
A few tips for now:
- Air is just fuel, not sound: The fact that you can hear the sound of air in your voice doesn't always mean optimal performance.
- Vocal cords must adduct: Singing with a breathy voice is like trying to clap but not closing your hands. That characteristic buzz is missing.
- You run out of breath not from lack of oxygen: Do you think you have small lungs? No, your vocal cords just let everything through at once instead of rationing the air.
- This is just the beginning: We can "seal" your voice, but true power and stability will only come when you learn to control the pressure inside.
